About Andrea
Mind Body Music was founded by Andrea Cortez, MM, MT-BC who is a board certified Music Therapist, sound artist and sound meditation instructor. Andrea completed her Master's degree in music therapy from Colorado State University with an emphasis in Neurologic Music Therapy. She was educated in the effects of music on the brain and body and methods of using music to help people rehabilitate from brain injury and neurologic disorders.
Andrea has worked with a variety of clients from children to elderly, including people with developmental disabilities, Parkinson's, stroke, autism, cancer, depression and anxiety. She has clinical experience working in hospitals, nursing homes and her own private therapy practice.
Andrea is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, recording artist and performer. She composes and produces the music for Mind Body Music and integrates different instruments into her therapy sessions and classes. At a young age Andrea began her journey in Eastern Mind-Body practices including yoga, meditation and martial arts. Her love for these practices influenced her work as a music therapist and now she incorporates aspects of these philosophies into her approach of interventions used in sessions and classes. Andrea is fascinated by music and sound's transformative power and how to use music and sound as tools for healing the mind, body and spirit.
