Post Capitalist Love Notes: Music as an Act of Liberation

Post Capitalist Love Notes: Music as an Act of Liberation

$20.00

This will be an evening of meditative and dreamy instrumental music of the harp and violin. Music as an act of liberation prioritizes collective rest through music listening and pushes back against the grind culture that depletes us.

Music this evening is presented by Andrea Cortez on harp with special guest Andrea Calderon on violin. They will weave together sounds to create a space of deep rest and guided relaxation.

Together we will practice direct action of liberation through collective listening, collective rest, and collective care. Andrea will share a passage from the book, Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey.

Tea will be shared afterwards and community connection time.

Andrea Cortez, MM, MT-BC, is a board certified music therapist who creates restorative listening environments that promote wellbeing and relaxation.  With expertise in Neurologic Music Therapy, Andrea harnesses the power of music and sound for healing. Her work focuses on how frequency, rhythm, harmony, and other elements of sound can help improve the health of our mind and body. Andrea teaches and conducts sound meditations using multiple modalities with singing bowls, harp, and voice. She is the owner of the Mind Body Music Center, a sound therapy studio, where she is based in Austin, TX. www.MindBodyMusicCenter.com

Andrea Calderon (andrea itzpapalotl) is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, recording, and touring artist. Andrea focuses on violin/vocals in diverse projects - among them: Corima, Thor Harris + Friends, Mylets, SOLS, Nolan Potter's Nightmare Band, previously with Chelsea Wolfe and more. She experiments with sound using only her instrument, creating effects by manipulating the bow, wood, and strings without using pedals or effects (occasional effects used are minimal). Andrea incorporates her roots + mesoamerican cosmovisions, language, and ritual in her art, which also intertwines with and reflects the work she does outside of music. Andrea also runs an indigenous artisan collective, organizes and hosts cultural events, curates outdoor markets, and works with Mexican cacao in the daytime.
